Vaccines

I never gave this a thought when Kayden was born. Everyone vaccinated their kids; I never even considered the option of going against the grain.

I am not a big Jenny McCarthy fan. However, I caught her interview on Larry King Live where she was talking about the link between vaccines and autism. Part of what she said got me thinking. Her thoughts were that she would rather have a kid deal with measles or mumps than autism. I see some validity in her point. Why do we have so many vaccines in such a short amount of time? Does he really need to get five shots this coming friday at his two months check up?

What are your thoughts on the alternative schedule...

In summary, this is a vaccination schedule that I would recommend (medical professional speaking here):

No vaccinations until a child is two years old.
No vaccines that contain thimerosal (mercury).
No live virus vaccines (except for smallpox, should it recur).
These vaccines, to be given one at a time, every six months, beginning at age 2:
Pertussis (acellular, not whole cell)
Diphtheria
Tetanus Polio (the Salk vaccine, cultured in human cells)

What are your thoughts, blogger nation?

I too caught a Jenny McCarthy interview with Oprah on this subject. It freaked me out! I did all kinds of "research" on the internet, but the problem is you could find research to support either side. I felt even more lost, confused and scared. My girls' MMR shot was coming up, and that was the "supposed Autism shot." Anyway, I went in with all sorts of questions for my doctor. She explained everything to me. Then she told me that my girls got their MMR shot last time. Oops! All that worry for nothing. They are fine. But I can't help but wonder about everything I read. I still think there is some sort of predisposition in these babies that makes them susceptible. I wish they could figure out how and why before more kids get it!

Hey, thanks for your kind comments on my blog. I love your by the way! Darling baby, and when it comes to vaccinations I too side with Jenny. Our kids are too precious to just wing it or let someone decide for us. I'm so glad we have the freedom to choose. I've just exposed my son to chicken pox, i'd much rather him get it because I know what happens, the vaccines are kind of the unknown for me. I've never given my son one vaccination and I think I may have cheated a much to common outcome by doing so. I think the problem is vaccinating them at such a young age when their immune system isn't ready for it. I wish they would test our babies prior to administering the shots to see if they have that weakened condition that would make them succeptable to autism. It scares me to death that mothers are winning lawsuits agains the vaccination companies. Anyway, you can tell i'm pretty passionate on the issue and i've done a TON of research. It just comes down to your faith and going with what feels good to you. Of course you have to include God, if I didn't have that relationship I'd feel totally blind.
