Good To Go.

Beware: Soap BoxIt seems like every time we order take-out lately, I feel like I have to tip the To Go worker. I worked at Applebees-- I know that it takes them a little while to put the order together. I remember many nights, however, where the TO GO specialists made far more than me waitressing. I even overheard one of them lamenting about someone only tipping them $2.

My Question is this: When did we have to start tipping for TO GO's?

I agree w/ Joan. I've never tipped To GO people. I figured they were getting more $ than the waitresses anyway. Chaps me to have to tip the pizza delivery guy too. They don't really do anything extra for you.

I always base my tip on service. If the waitress is friendly, responsive, timely and keeps my drink from getting empty I usually tip 15-20% but if she is slow, or lacking in some way I don't feel bad about as little as 5%. I feel they should EARN it.

Anyone ever seen the Third Rock episode where Jon Lithgow puts the "potential tip" $$ right out on the table? Hilarious!

I dont tip the To Go people either, Jamie...and as far as pizza delivery guy goes, after ordering, they always give me the price with "tax and delivery" included....So, not to be too big of a cheapskate, I'll give him a couple extra bucks, but it still feels WRONG!

Speaking of ungratefulness (waitresses lamenting and all), once I had a highschooler come to my door for pop cans...I gave her a full garbage bag. She spotted the other two full bags, rolled her eyes and walked away...not so much of a thanks! I was so ticked!

Take deep breaths Nicole!
A very smart blogger "Grace in the City" once wrote "Do I give simply to receive the gratitude of the recipient?
No, I give because Christ first gave to me."

Then I thought...We are so used to being praised for the good things we do, we now expect it. That isn't what Christian service is about. Good reminder!

This has nothing to do with tips, but I felt like sharing.

Don't even get me started. Here's a question. If I don't tip the guy at the McDonalds drive thru, why do I have to tip the worker at the coffee drive thru?

If they brought it to my house, it would be a different story. Like for the pizza guy- the gas to bring the pizza to my house is probably more than $2, so that is fine with me.

Driving to the rest. to pick up the food, and knowing first hand exactly what they do does not warrant them a substantial tip as far as I am concerned:-)
